{"id":654,"date":"2011-01-02T11:09:48","date_gmt":"2011-01-02T03:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.computersolutions.cn\/blog\/?p=654"},"modified":"2011-01-02T11:11:57","modified_gmt":"2011-01-02T03:11:57","slug":"internet-pricing-for-shanghai-home-users-in-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.computersolutions.cn\/blog\/2011\/01\/internet-pricing-for-shanghai-home-users-in-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Internet pricing for Shanghai Home users in 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The new year has arrived, and so has cheaper pricing for internet access at home.<\/p>\n<p>Currently for home use, there are 3 options for internet over fixed lines.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>China Telecom with ADSL over Copper \/ FTTB+Lan \/ FTTH<\/li>\n<li>China Unicom<\/li>\n<li>Orient Cable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Incumbent China Telecom has reduced their rates significantly since last year, as Unicom is encroaching on their space.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lets start with Unicom&#8217;s packages:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe latest pricing for 2011 for Unicom is here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sh.chinaunicom.com\/family\/ywcp\/jtkh\/kdl\/index.html#lt_dw_md\">http:\/\/www.sh.chinaunicom.com\/family\/ywcp\/jtkh\/kdl\/index.html#lt_dw_md<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unicom can provide up to 30M for home use (assuming your area can have Fibre access via FTTB+Lan or FTTH)<\/p>\n<p>10M is 198 \/month<br \/>\n20M is 248 \/ month<br \/>\n30M is 288 \/ month<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have fibre, and can only get ADSL lines, then your max speeds will be 4M &#8211; 6M depending on distance from the local substation.<\/p>\n<p>4M is 144 \/ month<br \/>\n6M is 168 \/ month.<\/p>\n<p>Shanghai Telecom has committed to rolling out Fibre to all users by 2013 though, so most areas will start to see fibre availability coming soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shanghai Telecom<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shanghai Telecom pricing is obviously being directly targeted by Unicom&#8217;s. Each Unicom price point has been aimed squarely at beating Telecom&#8217;s.. Competition is good, although Unicom could do better.  Shanghai Telecom has far better backend infrastructure though, and that&#8217;s going to take time for Unicom to improve on.<\/p>\n<p>Shanghai Telecom&#8217;s current best value package is this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sh.ct10000.com\/pptc\/ehome\/bundle\/e8\/gwe8sqb\/\">http:\/\/sh.ct10000.com\/pptc\/ehome\/bundle\/e8\/gwe8sqb\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This offers 10M internet (again with the caveat of Fibre availability in your area) for the sum of 188RMB a month. If you don&#8217;t have Fibre, they reduce that price by 10RMB and provide the standard 2M \/ month (which in comparison with standard adsl rates is <em>not<\/em> a good deal).<\/p>\n<p>They sell this as a bundle with Telephone access also, so you get reduced phone rates too.<br \/>\nThis includes a few other random things like incoming caller ID and custom ringtones for your callers, as well as 30hrs of monthly wifi access assuming you need to use or can find their wifi when around town.<\/p>\n<p>Bundles are:<\/p>\n<p>E8 &#8211; ( <a href=\"http:\/\/sh.ct10000.com\/pptc\/ehome\/bundle\/e8\/gwe8sqb\/\">http:\/\/sh.ct10000.com\/pptc\/ehome\/bundle\/e8\/gwe8sqb\/<\/a> )<br \/>\n10M &#8211; 188rmb \/month.<\/p>\n<p>E9 (<a href=\"http:\/\/sh.ct10000.com\/pptc\/ehome\/bundle\/e9\/zxe92011\/\">http:\/\/sh.ct10000.com\/pptc\/ehome\/bundle\/e9\/zxe92011\/<\/a>)<br \/>\n20M &#8211; 369rmb \/ month<\/p>\n<p><strong>Orient Cable<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last and least, we have Orient Cable. OCN rates are here<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocn.net.cn\/gsgg_cuxiao07.html\">http:\/\/www.ocn.net.cn\/gsgg_cuxiao07.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not going to bother listing their package in detail, as its pretty crappy.<br \/>\n1M for 110 \/ month.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the options, my pick for best choices would be<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fibre users:<\/strong><br \/>\nChina Telecom at 188rmb \/ month with 10M if you can get it value for money wise.<br \/>\nFor the speed demons China Unicom for 30M \/ month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ADSL only:<\/strong><br \/>\nChina Unicom for their 4M or 6M options if you can only get ADSL installed in your area.<br \/>\nUnicom&#8217;s may not offer this in your area though, so you may be stuck on the standard 2M for 150\/month till they upgrade lines.<\/p>\n<p>Good luck!<\/p>\n<p>China Mobile may start coming to their senses at some point and offer unlimited fixed wireless, but for now their offerings are too expensive for home use.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The new year has arrived, and so has cheaper pricing for internet access at home.
