The MACADDRESS needs to have bypass surgery to remove its colons.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>eg:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>My computer details are<\/div>\n<div>Computer Name: Lawrence Sheed\u2019s MacBook<\/div>\n<div>Mac Address: 00:1b:00:99:cd:1a<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So my line would look like this:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>hdiutil create -size 300g -fs HFS+J -type SPARSEBUNDLE -volname &#8220;Lawrence Sheed\u2019s MacBook&#8221; &#8220;Lawrence Sheed\u2019s MacBook_001b632eb218.sparsebundle&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>3) \u00a0Copy file to the network share in root folder \\<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Once you have the file created in step 2, copy that file to the Network Share where you want to use Time Machine.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The backup file needs to go to the root folder \\ on the share.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>4) Configure Time machine to allow use on network shares<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>(in terminal)<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>4) In Time Machine, point to the drive.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>System Preferences \/ Time Machine<\/div>\n<div>Choose the network drive..<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It will now allow you to backup to the network share.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Tested and working in 10.5.5 Leopard.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Thats it!<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1) Find out the Network name and Mac address for the computer: Network Name is here: System Preferences \/ Sharing \/ Computer Name eg\u00a0 Lawrence&#8217;s MacBook Write it down, we&#8217;ll need it in step 2.
